Author Of The Month

So like many of you I am in love with the House of Night Series, mainly I think it is due to the writings of P.C and Kristin Cast! They are amazing authors, that I feel many people should know about. Their writing style is easy to follow but also unique; also their plots and characters are so interesting that makes me wonder what their creativity levels are =) So seeing as November is almost over I will be running this through December as well! And at the snooty prep school, the filthy-rich girls treat Rebecca like she's invisible. Only gorgeous, unavailable Anton Grey seems to give Rebecca the time of day, but she wonders if he's got a hidden agenda. Then one night, in Lafayette Cemetery, Rebecca makes a friend. Sweet, mysterious Lisette is eager to talk to Rebecca, and to show her the nooks and crannies of the city. There's just one catch: Lisette is a ghost. A ghost with a deep, dark secret, and a serious score to settle. Will Rebecca be able to right the wrongs of the past, or has everything been ruined beyond repair?

The Vampire is Just Not That Into You
(Received from Scholastic Publishing)
Are you in love with a vampire? Are you worried that you might not be his (blood) type? Do you wonder whether that cold stare means he isn’t interested . . . or if it’s because he’s been dead for three centuries (nothing personal)? Have you tried to coax him out of his crypt with a flash of your neck or a near-death situation that requires him to save you at the very last possible moment? Have you ever considered what it will be like to introduce him to your mother? Even though your vampire’s skin is transfixingly translucent, he can still be very hard to read. Sometimes he’s simply holding back his true feelings, resisting the urge to bite you in the chance that one day you will truly love him. And other times . . . well, he’s just not that into you. How can you tell? Undead dating specialist Vlad Mezrich has all the answers, utilizing quizzes, Top Ten lists, language analysis, real-life (and real-death) testimonials, and fancy charts to show you what you need to do in order to get your vampire and keep him forever. Once you go vamp, you never decamp – so let this eternally rewarding book show you the way to the vampire of your dreams.

Movie Review: New Moon

So I have never done a movie review before but I thought it would be good to start off with New Moon! I went and saw the movie on opening night at 12:01, the funny thing is I got there at 9:45 and the theatre was already packed (I got amazing seats though)!

  • Title: New Moon
  • Director: Chris Weitz
  • Age Restrictions: PG-13
  • Time: 130 min
  • Company: Summit
  • Genre: Fantasy/YA
  • Directing: A+
  • Special Effects: A+
  • Acting: A

AMAZING!!!! This was exactly what I pictured the movie would look like! Hats off the Chris and the rest of the crew who made this happen. I feel this was so much better than Twilight, so if you did not like Twilight check this one out because it really blew me away. Even the acting was better in this movie, especially with Jacob. Also I liked the fact that humor was added to this movie it really helped with the characters. The special effects were spectacular, the wolves looked exactly how I pictured them when I read the books. Also the scenes with Bella hearing Edward was amazingly done!

Also I feel like this movie did a better job relating to the book, so that is why I enjoyed it more. I am so excited for eclipse to come out (June 30 2010) I am more anxious than ever to go and see that now! So yes, go see this movie! I promise you will not be disappointed. I know I am going to go see it again =)

Review: Betrayed (House of Night Series #2)

  • Title: Betrayed
  • Author: P.C and Kristin Cast
  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Paperback: 320 pages
  • Received From: I Bought it
  • Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin (October 2, 2007)
  • Genre: Fantasy/Fiction/YA
  • Cover: A+
  • Overall: A
  • ISBN-10: 0312360282
Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night. She’s come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs--like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend…or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.

So after I read Marked the first book in the House of Night series I was so excited to jump right into the second book. However school and life got into the way and I had a hard time getting back to the series. Alas I have finished the second book and it was spectacular; usually sequels to books have some what of a down fall to them because the first book is always the best. I can safely say that this book was equally as good if not better than the first book. The characters seemed to stay consistent with the way they were portrayed in the first book. The plot was different and original, and the writing was easy to follow.

So in this story Zoey has finally adjusted to her new life and is now starting to take over the Dark Daughters. However something is wrong and people she knows are going missing and some are even being killed. Also Zoey seems to be trapped in a love triangle between Erik, Heath, and Loren a teacher at the school. With all of this going on Zoey does not even know who she can trust! So through out this story Zoey also discovers some new things about herself, even some new powers. All of this mixed together to make a great plot for the second book, and the other characters in the book helped support it.

So I am happy to say that I will definitly be continuing this series! I find it to be an easy read with a very detailed storyline. I recommend this book to anyone who likes Young Adult fantasy, but make sure you read the first book Marked so you can understand the story.

Review: Shiver

  • Title: Shiver
  • Author: Maggie Stiefvater
  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Paperback: 400 pages
  • Received From: Scholastic (Published: August 2009)
  • Genre: Fantasy/Fiction/YA
  • Cover: A+
  • Overall: A+
  • ISBN-10: 0545123267
For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf--her wolf--is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

If you love to read, you must read this book! It has everything in it that I could ever ask for in a spectacular storyline. Love, Danger, fantasy, and so much more that kept me in a trance through out this entire book. I love when a book comes around where I can actually feel what the characters are feeling, and I am not going to lie I cried and laughed and so much more to this book. The characters are all so interesting and perfect in their own way. Especially Sam, Sam has such an interesting background and I am glad that Stiefvater incorporated it into the plot. Another one of my favorite characters was Beck, Beck was like a father to Sam and the way that he was portrayed just made fall in love with him.

The way that Stiefvater wrote this book was perfect, I love how it jumped from Grace's point of view to Sam's. It really felt like I was there with them going through the obstacles that they were going through. Especially since Sam is a wolf it was interesting to see his mind pattern when he was a wolf and then keeping some of the same features when he was human. The plot of the book is what sold everything to me though (don't worry no spoilers), it was suspensful and kept me reading into the early hours of the morning. Also through out the book I definitly felt a connection between the characters and the plot. It was as if every detail of this book was molded perfectly to fit in.

I would not be surprised to see this book being a best seller, because it was truly that good. I would definitly recommend this book not only to my readers on here, but also to anyone I found in a bookstore trying to find a good book! If you love young adult, fantasy, and wolves, this book has your name written all over it.

Tempted
So…you’d think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark’s life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions. Speaking of stress, the dark force lurking in the tunnels under the Tulsa Depot is spreading, and Zoey is beginning to believe Stevie Rae could be responsible for a lot more than a group of misfit red fledglings. Aphrodite’s visions warn Zoey to stay away from Kalona and his dark allure, but they also show that it is Zoey who has the power to stop the evil immortal. Soon it becomes obvious that Zoey has no choice: if she doesn’t go to Kalona he will exact a fiery vengeance on those closest to her. Will Zoey have the courage to chance losing her life, her heart, and her soul? Find out in the next spectacular installment in the House of Night Series, Tempted.

Bad Apple
"If I really wanted to open up, I'd confess that I really am the liar everyone believes I am."

High-school junior Tola Riley has green hair, a nose ring, an attitude problem, and a fondness for fairy tales, which are a great escape from real life. Everyone thinks she's crazy; everyone says so. Everyone except Mr. Mymer, her art teacher. He gets her paintings and lets her hang out in the art room during lonely lunch periods.

But then rumors start flying and Tola is suddenly the center of a scandal. The whole town is judging her—even her family. When Mr. Mymer is suspended for what everyone thinks is an affair, she has no choice but to break her silence. Fairy tales won't help her this time . . . so how can she tell the truth? And, more importantly, will anyone believe her?

Borrowed:

Haunted
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: Twenty-three of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you’ll ever encounter—sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined “Writers’ Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months,” and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of “real life” that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them. But “here” turns out to be a cavernous and ornate old theater where they are utterly isolated from the outside world—and where heat and power and, most important, food are in increasingly short supply. And the more desperate the circumstances become, the more extreme the stories they tell—and the more devious their machinations become to make themselves the hero of the inevitable play/movie/nonfiction blockbuster that will surely be made from their plight.
