People pity me, but mostly they feel envy. I have all the luxury and freedom a girl my age could want.

Something is happening to Charlotte Emerson. Like the fires that are ravaging the hills of Los Angeles, it consumes her from the inside out. But whether it is her eternal loneliness, the memory of her brother, the return of her first love, or the brooding, magnetic Jared—she cannot say. What if it's something more . . .

Something to do with the sudden tear in her perfect nails. The heat she feels when she's with Jared. The blood rushing once again to her cheeks and throughout her veins.

For Charlotte is a vampire, witness to almost a century's worth of death and destruction. But not since she was a human girl has mortality touched her.

In what way will you be transformed?

Until now.

I am torn. When I first picked up this book I could not wait to start reading it, as the pages went on I enjoyed the book. However not as much as I have other vampire books (and you all know I love my vampire books!). I think the storyline was great however I feel like it was rushed and could have been better. The character development was good however I did not find myself attached to Charlotte as I did with other characters. I also felt like the climax of the book came to late and like I stated before became rushed.

This was the first book I have ever read from Francesca Lia Block, and I must point out I did enjoy her writing style so I will look into some of her many other books. However I feel this book could have been stronger, with more detail in the plot. So as I stated above I am torn, I think I wanted this to be an amazing book and ended up getting a mediocre vampire love story. However I will still be looking into Francesca Lia Block's other works and if any of you have any suggestions please let me know.
