Dead Until Dark is the first book in Charlaine Harris's series The Southern Vampire Series / Sookie Stackhouse novels. In this first installment, the author introduces the character of Sookie Stackhouse, a young telepathic waitress from a fictional town called Bon Temps in Louisiana and her world, an alternate history where vampires, shapeshifters and other supernatual beings coexist among humans. In Dead Until Dark Sookie begins a romantic entanglement with her vampire neighbor and is faced with a series of murders in town.

Overall I highly enjoyed reading this book. I have to say I am now officially hooked on the series. This book wraps you in with its seductiveness and then holds you with suspense. I have read the twilight series and enjoyed those as well but to all of you who can not stand that series, I can safely say this is completely different. I mean they both do involve vampires and a love story but that pretty much the only similarity. This book has now turned into a tv series called "True Blood", which is also fantastic. The first book is the equivalent to the first season of the show. Now the seconded season has officially started and I am on the edge of my seat. Honestly if you like supernatural this book is jam packed, I definitely recommend picking it up!

  1. Oh wow, I did not know that these books are the true blood series... that would definitely explain their popularity.

But I don't like any vampires except Buffy, lol. :)

  2. I think you may have put the wrong url on Mr Linky at Beth Fish Reads. It links to your review of Living Dead in Dallas instead of this post.

My apologies if I've made a mistake.

  4. I fixed the Mr. Linky links, so all is well now. I really love the books so far and I also love True Blood.

  5. Great review! You are so right in the comparison...while both deal with vampires, there is no way you can compare Ms. Harris's vamps with Ms. Meyer's ones. I liked them both.
