Waiting on Wednesday (1)

ISBN: 9780061547850
Author: Block, Francesca Lia
Publisher: Harper Teen
Subject: Vampires
Publication Date: October 2009

Cha
rlotte Emerson seems to have the perfect existence. She is enviably beautiful and lives alone in a mansion full of reasures and beautiful clothes, perched atop the cliffs of the Pacific Palisades. But Charlotte has been lonely and dead for almost a century. Now she might get a second chance at life.

I am really excited to get my hands on this book! It sounds really good and I absolutely love the cover! I really think that a cover is what initially gets someone to pick up the book and decided to read they synopsis. I know (being in Graphic Design) that if I do not find something visually appealing I just pass on buy. I learned is school that people only look at an ad for 2 seconds and in that 2 seconds is when they decided if its interesting or they move on. So yea, that was my rambling all about how much I like this cover =)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event to spotlight upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. It's hosted by Jill at
Breaking the Spine.

What I am reading Now (2)

Sookie's boyfriend has been very distant-in another state, distant. Now she's off to Mississippi to mingle with the underworld at Club Dead-a little haunt where the vampire elite go to chill out. But when she finally finds Bill-caught in an act of betrayal-she's not sure whether to save him...or sharpen some stakes. (Book 3 in the Sookie Stackhouse Series By Charlaine Harris)

So Far I am liking this book a lot more than the second one. I am very close to finishing it and I can not wait to see what happens next. My teachers at my school are getting very mad at me because instead of working on my projects I am reading in the back of class =). I guess they just do not understand what an addiction to reading is~! However now I have to head to class but I will post a review on this shortly =)

Happy Reading!

Moore Books Challenge

I have decided to start a challenge based around Christopher Moore's amazing books! So if you love Moore and want to read some of his books or if you just want to start reading his books this is a great challenge to get a jump start on his 12 novels already out.

So here are the Rules:
- Read all of Moore's books there are 12 so far
- Starts between January 2009- December 31, 2010
- Please Post about this on your blog so many people can join in on the fun
- Please leave me a comment telling me if you are going to join =)
- Please let me know how you liked the books!

I also think I might be giving one of his books away so stay tuned =)

Here are some of his amazing books:

Bloodsucking Fiends

Jody never asked to become a vampire. But when she wakes up under an alley Dumpster with a badly burned arm, an aching back, superhuman strength, and a distinctly Nosferatuan thirst, she realizes the decision has been made for her.

Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. A would-be Kerouac from Incontinence, Indiana, Tommy (to his friends) is biding his time night-clerking and frozen-turkey bowling in a San Francisco Safeway. But all that changes when a beautiful undead redhead walks through the door...and proceeds to rock Tommy's life — and afterlife — in ways he never thought possible.

You Suck

Being dead sucks. Make that being undead sucks.

Literally. Just ask Thomas C. Flood. Waking up after a fantastic night unlike anything he's ever experienced, he discovers that his girlfriend, Jody—the woman of his dreams—is a vampire. And surprise! Now he's one, too.

For some couples, the whole biting-and-blood thing would have been a deal breaker. But Tommy and Jody are in love, and they vow to work through their issues. Like how much Jody should teach Tommy about his new superpowers (and how much he nee

ds to learn on his own). Plus there's Tommy's cute new minion, sixteen-year-old goth girl Abby Normal. (Well, someone has to run errands during daylight hours!)

Making the r

elationship work, however, is the least of Jody and Tommy's problems. Word has it that the vampire who nibbled on Jody wasn't supposed to be recruiting any new members into the club. Even worse, Tommy's erstwhile turkey-bowling pals are out to get him, at the urging of a blue-dyed Las Vegas call girl named (duh) Blue.

And that really sucks.

Fool

A man of infinite jest, Pocket has been Lear's cherished fool for years, from the time the king's grown daughters—selfish, scheming Goneril, sadistic (but erotic-fantasy-grade-hot) Regan, and sweet, loyal Cordelia—were mere girls. So naturally Pocket is at his brainless, elderly liege's side when Lear—at the insidious urging of Edmund, the bastard (in every way imaginable) son of the Earl of Gloucester—demands that his kids swear

their undying love and devotion before a collection of assembled guests. Of course Goneril and Regan are only too happy to brownnose Dad. But Cordeliabelieves that her father's request is kind of . . . well . . . stupid, and her blunt honesty ends up costing her her rightful share of the kingdom and earns her a banishment to boot.

Well, now the bangers and mash have really hit the fan. The whole damn country's about to go to hell in a handbasket because of a stubborn old fart's wounded pride. A

nd the only person who can possibly make things right . . . is Pocket, a small and slight clown with a biting sense of humor. He's already managed to sidestep catastrophe (and the vengeful blades of many an offended nobleman) on numerous occasions, using his razor-sharp mind, rapier wit . . . and the equally well-honed daggers he keeps conveniently hidden behind his back. Now he's going to have to do some very fancy maneuvering—cast some spells, incite a few assassinations, start a war or two (the usual stuff)—to get Cordelia back into Daddy Lear's good graces, to derail the fiendish power plays of Cordelia's twisted sisters, to rescue his gigantic, gigantically dim, and always randy friend and apprentice fool, Drool, from repeated beatings . . . and to shag every lusciously shaggable wench who's amenable to shagging along the way.

Pocket may be a fool . . . but he's definitely not an idiot.

Lamb

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine s

acrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years — except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in the divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work "reminiscent of Vonnegut

and Douglas Adams" (Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more — except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdala — and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Review: The Scarlet Letter

Title: The Scarlet Letter
Author: Nathaniel Hawthorne
Pages: 272 pages
Published: Penguin Group (USA) Incorporated
Genre: Classic/Fiction
Cover Score: B+
Overall Rating: C-
ISBN-10: 9780142437261

The Scarlet Letter
is the story of three New England settlers at odds with the puritan society in which they live. Roger Chillingworth, an aging scholar, arrives in New England after two years' separation from his wife Hester to find her on trial for adultery. For refusing to reveal her lover's identity, she is condemned to wear a letter 'A' sewn onto her clothes. Roger resolves to discover and destroy the man who has stolen his honor.

For the next seven years the participants in this bizarre love triangle privately suffer the consequences of betrayal, cowardice, and humiliation. Slowly but surely, the need for redemption grows in each as the story hastens toward its dramatic close.

I came into this book with excitement and high hopes, only to be slightly let down. This book was supposed to be a master piece, however I found it to be dull and a little hard to follow. I did enjoy the plot however I liked how it explained the Puritans view on adultery and how they choose to punish Hester. I think the main reason I did not like this book was because I had to read it for school (no one likes to be forced to do anything), but I also felt like I did not like it because of how everything was just dragged on. I also think part of my let down was because of the fact that so many people through out the world raved about this book, and I just assumed it was going to be great. It had a good plot however it was just hard to follow, well I guess we cant love them all!

Review: A Dirty Job

Title: A Dirty Job
Author: Christopher Moore
Pages: 291 pages
Published: HarperCollins Publishers
Genre: Fiction/Fantasy/Humor
Cover Score: A-
Overall Rating: A
ISBN-10: 9780060590277

Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy, the kind of fellow who makes his way through life by being careful and constant. And Charlie's been lucky. He's married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy, and who is about to have their first child.

Yes, Charlie's doing okay. That is, until the day his daughter, Sophie, is born. Just as Charlie turns to go home, he sees a strange man in mint-green golf wear at his wife's bedside, a man who claims that no one should be able to see him. But see him Charlie does, and from here on out, things get really weird. . . .

People start dropping dead around him. It seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death. It's a dirty job. But hey, somebody's gotta do it.

Overall, one of the most amazing books I have ever read! Moore kills me with his sick and twisted humor. Charlie Asher is a character you will definitely route for, and his daughter Sophie is a character you just fall in love with. This book threw me for a loop in every chapter, I had no idea what to expect. Even at the end (don't worry I am not going to spoil it) but believe me at the end of the book there is a Epilogue PLEASE READ IT when you are done. If you love fantasy this book is jam packed with it, in a funny way. I especially loved Minty Fresh one of the Death Merchants he was a very interesting character. Charlies sister Jane was histarical, overall the character were phenominal. The plot was so suspensful I could not put the book down. This book was definitly a new twist on death, and boy was it amazing!

Favorite Quotes:
"Doughnut! Doughnut! You like doughnuts don't you?" (Charlie)
"Yes, but why?" (Vern)
"Because the continuance of human existence as we know it depends on us having doughnunts together." (Charlie)
"Really?" (Vern)
"No, not really. Im just fucking with you." (Charlie)

"So im like the santas helper of death!?!?" (Charlie)

"So I am death" Charlie said then turned to his daughter while buttering his toast.
"This is death toast sweety" (Charlie)

Friday Finds (1)

Well I have been on a buying spree with books and last night I got an email from borders, which read "Member Appreciation Week get 25% off Entire Order". So being the consumer I am, I rush out today to put my newly found coupon to good use. So these are the books I ende d up finding myself attracted to....

Think vampires are romantic, sexy, and powerful? Think again. Vampires are dead. And unless they want to end up staked, they have to give up fanging people, admit their addiction, join a support group, and reform themselves.
Nina Harrison, fanged at fifteen and still living with her mother, hates the Reformed Vampire Support Group meetings every Tuesday night. Even if she does appreciate Dave, who was in a punk band when he was alive, nothing exciting ever happens. That is, until one of group members is mysteriously destroyed by a silver bullet. With Nina (determined to prove that vamps aren't useless or weak) and Dave (secretly in love with Nina) at the helm, the misfit vampires soon band together to track down the hunter, save a werewolf, and keep the world safe from the likes of themselves.

Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.

Collected here in one volume for the first time, volumes one and two of The Vampire Diaries, the tale of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.

On my way home from my excursion I was backing my car out of the parking space, when all you hear is BANG. Yes, yes I hit a pole. I think it might of been god telling me to stop buying books and to finish the ones I am reading. I think I will listen to him =)

As of right now I love love LOVE this book and I can not wait to see how it ends up! Its a kind of book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and believe me you have no idea what is coming half the time. Moore is definitely the king of unpredictability, keep on the look out my review should be sometime this week!

Mail Box Monday (1)

I went a little crazy and bought a lot of books this week. However my birthday is this upcoming Saturday so I do not feel to bad =)

Marked
16-year-old Zoey Redbird is marked as a Vampyre during a normal school day, having to leave behind her human friends and unpleasant family to start a new life as a Vampyre fledgling (a young Vampyre). Joining the House of Night, a school for Vampyres, she makes friends with her new Kenny Chesney obsessed room mate Stevie Rae, intelligent and vocabulary stretching Damien and 'The Twins' Shaunee, a mixed race Jamaican-American girl, and Erin, the whitest white girl from Oklahoma whose souls, despite not being biologically related, are connected enough that they finish each others sentences and are never without each other.

Though while making friends, Zoey also makes an enemy in the form of Aphrodite, a beautiful and popular older student who makes life as difficult as possible for Zoey and her friends and is her rival for the affections of school hearthrob, Erik Night.

Vampire Academy
St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school—it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's—the very place where they're most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Death with Interruptions
Nobel Prize-winner Jose Saramago's brilliant new novel poses the question -- what happens when the grim reaper decides there will be no more death? On the first day of the new year, no one dies. This of course causes consternation among politicians, religious leaders, morticians, and doctors. Among the general public, on the other hand, there is initially celebration—flags are hung out on balconies, people dance in the streets. They have achieved the great goal of humanity: eternal life. Then reality hits home—families are left to care for the permanently dying, life-insurance policies become meaningless, and funeral parlors are reduced to arranging burials for pet dogs, cats, hamsters, and parrots.

Death sits in her chilly apartment, where she lives alone with scythe and filing cabinets, and contemplates her experiment: What if no one ever died again? What if she, death with a small d, became human and were to fall in love?

Generation Dead
Phoebe is just your typical goth girl with a crush. He's strong and silent.and dead.
All over the country, a strange phenomenon is happening. Some teenagers who die aren't staying dead. They are coming back to life, but they are no longer the same-they stutter, and their reactions to everything are slower. Termed "living impaired" or "differently biotic," they are doing their best to fit into a society that doesn't want them.

Fitting in is hard enough when you don't have the look or attitude, but when almost everyone else is alive and you're not, it's close to impossible. The kids at Oakvale High don't want to take classes or eat in the cafeteria next to someone who isn't breathing. And there are no laws that exist to protect the differently biotic from the people who want them to disappear-for good.

With her pale skin and Goth wardrobe, Phoebe has never run with the popular crowd. But no one can believe it when she falls for Tommy Williams, the leader of the dead kids. Not her best friend, Margi, whose fear of the differently biotic is deeply rooted in guilt over the past. And especially not her neighbor, Adam, the star of the football team. Adam has just realized his feelings for Phoebe run much deeper than just friendship. He would do anything for her, but what if protecting Tommy is the one thing that would make her happy?

Bloodsucking Fiends

Jody never asked to become a vampire. But when she wakes up under an alley Dumpster with a badly burned arm, an aching back, superhuman strength, and a distinctly Nosferatuan thirst, she realizes the decision has been made for her.

Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. But all that changes when a beautiful undead redhead walks through the door...and proceeds to rock Tommy's life — and afterlife — in ways he never thought possible.

Club Dead

But when she finally finds Bill-caught in an act of betrayal-she's not sure whether to save him...or sharpen some stakes.

Twilight vs. Sookie Stackhouse Series

I have been debating in my mind over the past couple months which book I think comes out on top. Both books have pros and cons to them but which is truly better? I have decided to make a list of each books pros and cons and try to figure out. Please let me know which you think is better.

Twilight Series:
Pros
- Easy read
- Set in Present time
- Different perspective on vampires
- Dramatic
- Creative Plot

Cons
- Could have been written better
- Only 4 books
- Crazy fans
Overall the Twilight saga was good I really enjoyed it, felt a little rushed towards the final book but oh well. I hope Stephanie Meyers plans to continue the saga however it may never happen. But we can all dream.....

Sookie Stackhouse:
Pros
- Southern Charm
- Vampires Mainstream (out in the open)
- Has a Mystery to each book
- Has 9 books
- Well written

Cons
- Very graphic (sexually)
- Sookie is dramatic
- The show and book are not always accurate

I do love this series very much I am just now starting the 3rd book Club Dead. I am as hooked as I was on Twilight, however I do not know which one is better. I guess they are both unique in their own way, What do you think?
